JCYIO - Iraq has completed the activities of the Maysan First Short Films Festival for supporting democracy in the Conference Palace hall, it is considered the first one of its kind in Iraq, the Festival was attended by the Provincial Council Chairman, Maysan Governor, the Maysan PRT team leader and many officials, journalists and youth participants.
Mohannad Hameed; the Secretary General of Journalists & Cultured Youth Independent Organization in Iraq said that the slogan of the festival was supporting Democracy concepts in Iraq, it came from our belief in that motion picture plays a very important role in delivering the required message to mass audience, it is different from the written and read media that addresses only individuals.

Mr. Mohannd said that this activity included 9 training workshops for youth, with ages ranging between 16 and 18 years old, they had training in video recording, production, directing and story writing. they had also very intensive training in democracy and its concepts.

He added that 180 young teen from both sexes participated in the activity resulting in the production of 35 short movies with 1.5 – 2 minutes time line, the activity was concluded by an event where all of the 35 productions where shown in front of the audience and a special Committee that selected the three best movies and were awarded.
The Provincial Council Chairman Mr. Abdulhusain Al-Saedy, Maysan Governor Mr. Mohammad Shea Al-Soudany and Maysan PRT team leader Mr. Steve Banks all stated that this Festival was very successful and a new experiment and they hope that it will continue.

The event was concluded by Maysan governor granting JCYIO – Iraq the Maysan Province Excellency Award 2010, an annual prize given for the most effective social event in the province.
